Story Discussion Guide

• Which of the two endings to the story of the Runaway Shadow do you like best?  Which one do you think is most true?

• Were the animals and creatures that Shadow met while he was a runaway right to treat it like it was silly or even mistreat it?   Why do you think so?

• Andre had to do a lot of actions to get a shadow back either his new one or his old one. 

• Which of those parts of the spell would have been hardest for you to do?
  • Would you have enjoyed doing any parts of the magic spell actions to get your shadow back?

• How were Papere’s magic instructions to Andre like having to take bad tasting medicine when you are sick?  How do you think Andre was able to make himself do those things?

• How could you tell if someone or your favorite pet had no shadow?

• What should Andre have done to keep his shadow from wanting to run away from him?

• Who do you think would remember the story best and who should be believe most—Great Grand MaMaw who saw it as a little girl or her two Aunties who were teachers at Andre’s school?  Why?
